Durgaprasad studies in Class 8 in Government Boys High School. His father works
in molding factory on daily wage basis and his mother as a house maid.
To make ends meet, Durgaprasad assists his parents financially. He works as a servant
after finishing his school and earns 650 rupees per month.
Very often he used to observe the children (in whose house he worked) working on
a strange machine called “Computer” It made him curious so he went to the nearby
cyber café to enquire. When he came to know the charges of using the Computer at
the Cyber Café he let his dreams die as he understood the need his family had for
the money he earned.
One day he came to know that his cousin brother Eeshwar was learning computers at
MESCO School in a community training program organized by DELL and Learning Links
Foundation. He immediately joined the program.
Durgaprasad was very excited to learn, he worked hard and performed well in the
training program. Since he was keen to share his learnings with others, he requested
the trainer at the Community Centre to let him help the other new students. Durgaprasad
is now mentoring the other children. He is also a great ambassador of the program,
sharing his experiences and encouraging other children to make the best of the learning
opportunity provided by DELL and Learning Links Foundation.
Now Durgaprasad feels more confident compared to earlier days. He can talk confidently,
surfs the Internet for information and continues to help other children. He is confident
that he can compete with any private school child.
Durgaprasad aims to become a policeman. The DYC program has helped him to develop
a lot of confidence and he believes that he can make his dreams come true.
