My name is Sunitha S, I am from Dayananda Sagar girl’s high school. In the present
world everybody talks of computers but it was a world far away from my world – a
dream for me. We have no computer facilities in our school and thereby have no knowledge
of its usage.
My father Somashekar works in bicycle shop and Mother Chandrika works as a maid
servant. With my father’s earnings, fulfilling our daily needs is the greatest challenge
so my mother has to support our family by working. I am very thankful to my parents
who still manage to send me to school rather than making me work in order to earn
money. I go to the nearby low budget school but using computers is a dream for children
like me. I came to know about the Computer Lab set up by Dell Company. I was amazed
when I came to know that they were providing the training free of cost. I joined
the program and our computer instructor provided us good training and useful guidelines.
Since we are from Kannada medium, I had a fear before joining the program as many
of the computer terms will be in English. The instructor explained in local language
and we also have the curriculum in Kannada. I am very grateful to Dell Company and
our Instructor Ramesh Sir. Now I can operate computers without any hesitation.
I would like to share an incident, when my mother took me to the house where she
works. I explained to my mother about the computer which I saw at their place. Our
owner was very happy seeing me explain about computers, and she praised me saying
that I know better than her children who study in the convent school. My mother’s
eyes filled with joy as though I had already become a software engineer, which is
my dream too.
My mother shared this incident with all the people she met. I thank everybody who
helped me make my mother happy and proud of me.
