Young Scientists at Work
Science Exhibition held on 20th March’10 Chennai, India


 

Literacy in the fields of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology is essential today for an appreciation of the rapid expansion of human knowledge and strong economic growth in the years ahead. Students as the leaders of the future, have to be able to think critically about the world and to make informed decisions about personal and societal issues and this they can do only with a strong Math and Science background.

The SCIMA Digital Enhancement Project a Dell and LLF (Learning Links Foundation) collaboration encourages science and math learning and digital literacy in a 21st century environment.

This project is a part of Dell’s vision of creating a generation of young people across the globe prepared to connect. This program has been introduced in 5 nodal schools across India and is being implemented by Learning Links Foundation in collaboration with Dell’s signature program ‘Dell YouthConnect Program’.

The state government’s vision to enhance the quality of education in the government schools is being achieved by the implementation of this Project. Through this project the government aims to create a model to modernize and improve the math & science learning so that the other government schools can follow the same.

Since the inception of the SCIMA Digital Enhancement Project in Padippaga Chemmal K. Ganapathy Government Higher Secondary School, Kodambakkam, Chennai in June 2009, a series of initiatives have been taken up in the government School to encourage and promote interest of students in these subjects and develop a 21st century learning environment. One of these initiatives is the formation of the science club ‘Minerva’. The club has helped students engage in activities that help them move beyond text books and promote creativity and innovation amongst the learners.

As a part of the activities of the club a Science Exhibition was organized in the school on 20th March 2010.The students made brilliant science projects be it the 5 feet Dinosaur of the Jurassic Period or the PSLV Rocket for the future. They took pains to display and explain the projects undertaken by them. They had made science come alive all around them and related different and difficult concepts to things around them.

Mrs. Anandhi, Sr. Admin Executive, Dell India Pvt. Ltd was the Guest of Honour for the day. She expressed great interest in the exhibition and was very delighted at the interest and dedication exhibited by the students. She also awarded the 3 best projects from each class.

The exhibition helped kindle a scientific temperament in the children and will encourage them to more scientific activities in the future.

Keep up the spirit. It was indeed great and immense pleasure to meet the brilliant students. The exhibits were awesome and pretty. Children were fully filled with Innovative and imagination thoughts. Nice experience. Thanks to the school management and Learning Links. Good Luck!!!
