Teaching through the Power of Sports: PEC

Sports and physical education play a crucial role in the all round development of children. Education through sports is the latest watchword in the field of school teaching. PEC-INDIA (Physical Education Cards--India programme) is an outcome of the collaborative efforts of the Governments of India (under CBSE-Board) and the United Kingdom (specifically the British Council) to strengthen the delivery of the Primary Physical Education Curriculum under the International Inspiration Programme.

Learning Links Foundation, LLF has taken the initiative to conduct PEC Training Workshops for teachers. With the objective of equipping the teachers with the necessary skills and expertise to implement and use PEC cards and equipment in their schools, LLF conducts a two day Deliverers Training Course for primary teachers.

Recently a two day "Deliverers Training Workshop on PEC" was organized by LLF in the premises of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya, Jaipur, which was attended by 35 primary teachers .The interactive workshop conducted by the trainer, Chandeep Marwah was aimed to encourage teachers to eventually own the PEC programme.

The teachers were made to understand the importance of ABC (Agility, Balance & Co-ordination).They were made familiar with the PEC cards and the equipment Teachers were given hands on experience to conduct PE sessions using the PEC equipment to have an understanding of the principles of inclusion through STEP.

It was extremely encouraging to observe that all the teachers took keen interest and participated in all deliberations and activities. In fact, several of them thought this was an experience of a kind. They felt empowered to manage physical education classes.
