Teacher Training Programme on Physical Education at Bankura was a good experience.
The period 9th – 11th Nov, 2010 turned out to be quite interesting for 49 teachers
and 5 Physical Instructors. When they received ‘instructions’ from their departments
that they should participate in a training programme on physical education for three
days, most of them were rather displeased about it. However, they turned up for
the trainings and certainly did not regret it by the time they left!
The training programme on physical education was held in Bankura for Zilla Parishad
teachers under the International Inspiration initiative. The training was planned
for three days focusing on the use of the Physical Education Cards (developed under
the aegis of British Council, UNICEF, Youth Sports Trust and U K Sports).
The training included sessions on developing an understanding about the importance
of agility, balance and coordination in young children, the PE cards and how they
can be used for planning lessons, the methodology of the PE Cards, warming up and
cooling down activities, optimal participation of children, and developing indoor
and outdoor games and activities with curricular links. There was a motivational
session as well.
In fact, several of them thought this was an experience of a kind and were immensely
grateful to the resource persons – Mukesh Kohli and Chandeep Marwah of Learning
Links Foundation, New Delhi.
In their feedback they thought that the highlight of the training was the methodology
employed by the trainers. They agreed that the content of the training was relevant
and such trainings should be held regularly. They felt empowered to manage physical
education classes.
